Daemonx, I highly recommend you take a look into subsonic, it's a piece of OSS also that I believe ties in well with your current guides. I use it for my setup currently. You can stream all your files, transcoded also, to any web capable machine (or phone). Basically it's mostly to carry around your music collection (streamed to your phone). I listen to my entire music collection while at work! You can even use your own media player as it can spit out playlists... I used VLC on my own network to play the files straight across.

I believe this is right up your alley sir!

I just wanted to thank you for your thorough guides, I've used the Sabnzbd, the couchpotato and the sickbeard one! The only troubles I've had is where I didnt listen to your advise and then paid the price!

The other thing that might need adding is that if a users pending download folder is within the same folder that couchpotato processes it will reak havok! Also the same with TV shows, it will grab them and find a name randomly for them!
Dealing with Torrent and NZB with CouchPotato file managing doesn't work well together, I'd turn it off if you use both, otherwise just use NZB and get sabnzb to put files within a Movie and TV folder.

I've been using duckduckgo for several months now.
Google has had their programmers on overtime filling the background with html5, flash, and other crazy stuff so that while the interface 'looks minimalistic' it actually slows my machine down. I do run with multiple tabs. But the point is they are doing more back behind the curtain than they should.

I used to use yahoo search but they were doing the same thing - too much content back there. So I switched to google. Now I've switched to duckduckgo.

I do still get on google for image search, but there is probably a way to do that with duckduckgo and I just haven't 'searched for it' yet.

I've tried Duck Duck Go several times, and I really don't like the search results it provides (useful sites that appear high in the list in Google and Scroogle and Ixquick are nowhere to be seen in the top 100 on DuckDuckGo).

Interesting read - thanks! I'm looking to get a HTMC for the living room soon. I'm on Ubuntu 10.10 for my workstation, and will look into Xubuntu for the HTMC.

I've only recently come across your site, and I must say the articles look very useful and well-written. Thanks again.

Issue with sabnzbd+ I'm hoping you guys can help me with.

I'm running Ubuntu 11.04. Currently, I'm wanting SAB to connect through a VPN connection that I create using OpenVPN. When I connect to the VPN, I receive an IP address (assigned dynamically). I don't have a problem manually specifying that IP address when I launch SAB (input as the --server command line argument at the terminal). When doing that, everything works fine and SAB performs as expected. However, this setup is part of a standalone media center PC (SAB->SickBeard->XBMC), so I'm trying to automate this setup as much as possible. For instance, I have a cron job that runs every few minutes to check and see if the VPN is down. If it is down, the cron job will reestablish the VPN, which means a new IP address, which means I have to manually specify it to SAB....and on and on if/when the VPN goes down.

I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to Linux networking stuff, so maybe you guys can help me out. Maybe there's a solution to this problem in port forwarding or a dyndns type thing. I dunno, as I've said, I'm new at this and googling hasn't yielded me any good answers yet.

Just a quick question: Are you able to change the init.d script so I will be able to run SickBeard as root? I am having problems adding shows due to permissions.

Cheers and thanks for a great tutorial!

I am using your guides to get my Ubuntu server setup. I had no problems with SAB and Sickbeard, but with Couchpotato I'm running into issues adding it to startup. I've gone exactly like the guide, but when I try to run "/etc/init.d/couchpotato" start I get the below error.

scott@entertainment:~$ /etc/init.d/couchpotato start
Starting CouchPotato
/etc/init.d/couchpotato: 54: start-stop-daemon: not found

I can start the application manually by putting in the python command, and that is fine for now. But would like to get this automated.

Thanks!

Why do you use 'Required-Start: $all' in your /etc/init.d/sickbeard script? I'd say it's hardly needed for sickbeard, and it has the possibility to conflict with other scripts, as it's not possible to have two scripts that both depend on '$all', since it results in a loop.

I'm having the same problem. I did what you recommended and deleted my ~/.sickbeard directory and started over (hey, it's quick to do anyway). The service starts and stops just great with a manual invoke of the "/etc/init.d/sickbeard start", however it does not start on system start. Any ideas?

Great guide!

Just one problem for me. In Linux, Sickbeard is creating folders without Group write permission. I need the group write permission enabled by default so that I can delete stuff when logged in as another user.

Is there anyway to specify the umask options when starting sickbeard using your script? The bundled init script starts sickbeard using the start-stop-deamon, and in that case you can specify a --usmask option.

However, I too had problems with PIDs when I used the bundled init script, so I used yours instead.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi. There seems to be a bug with updating sickbeard. First of all, there is no button to update. If you click on force version check, you get a bunch of errors. Here is what my log file says:

2011-12-13 19:31:15.267312 CHECKVERSION :: Exception generated in thread CHECKVERSION: invalid literal for int() with base 10: 'Nonea'

I'm using sickbeard build 491 on ubuntu.

Hi and thanks for the great tutorials. Sickbeard is working out pretty well for me. CouchPotato,
not so much. Can I ask. How do i stop CouchPotato from downloading image files or what am i then supposed to do with these image files?

I search for my movie, it gets snatched. I wait for the download to finish and then at the end i have an image file. Excuse my noobness, but is this something i can stop/fix?

Thanks,

Hello, I just wanted to thank you for those guides, my ubuntu server works like a charm (I installed plex media server on it and linked with sickbeard and couchpotato aswell) so it dispatches all my library on all my network and all my roomies are amazed :D so thanks to you!
But my message wasn't about that but about integrating in your tutorial "periscope" I don't know if you are familiar with that python app, it checks all your movies files (specially series) and download the appropriate subtitle in the language you want, automatically. It would be great if you did a tutorial on how to install it and coordinate its starts when a new download as been completed :D

Hey eldo,

First off, interesting fix. Second off, I don't recommend editing the code for Couch Potato directly as next time it goes to update itself it'll likely overwrite your changes or it may even cause problems beyond that.

Instead I'd suggest reporting this as a possible fix on Couch Potato's GitHub or forum.

Also, it is already possible to disable Couch Potato from launching the browser at startup via the web interface or via the config.ini file in the .couchpotato directory and I've not seen any issue with Couch Potato ignoring this configuration option when launching it with "python ~/.couchpotato/CouchPotato.py -d".

I have used Startup Applications in the past as it is dead simple and may alone be a good fix for the startup issues people are experiencing (However, it may not get Couch Potato to shutdown properly).

Anyway, definitely appreciate the ideas and feedback and please do relay this to the Couch Potato forums as my main focus is in writing the guides themselves and bugs should be reported to the projects directly.

Cheers!

Hi Zeff,

Make sure you've installed SABnzbd+ via the official Ubuntu or Linux Mint repositories or via JCFP's PPA first as that should resolve all dependencies for Sick Beard. If you've done this already or continue to have this issue after doing so hop on to Sick Beard's forums or Freenode IRC channel and see if anyone can help you there.

Best of luck,

Thanks for following up Legoman666,

Just for your reference mdadm is for managing multi-disk arrays (such as RAID) in case you did in fact need that, or need it in the future.

Hey Matt,

The PPA is up and hasn't gone down anytime that I've seen. You may need to add the repository via the command line/terminal due to an annoying bug in Ubuntu.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:jcfp/ppa

That should get you going.

Sorry, I was able to fix it shortly after I made the post here. It turns out that some other package that I had installed put itself on port 8083 (package name was "mdadm" for those wondering). I removed it, rebooted, and Couch Potato is working fine now.

Thanks for the great guide/script!

Hi Legoman666,

I don't have a solution for this as it's working fine for me. At this point I recommend that anyone that's having the problem revert to the default Couch Potato auto-start script (/home/$USER/.couchpotato/initd and edit it accordingly). If the problem persist submit a bug report to Couch Potato directly and launch it manually (python /home/$USER/.couchpotato/CouchPotato.py).

These scripts have actually been replaced by Upstart scripts, so it may just be that the init scripts are showing their age a bit here. Unfortunately I'm not a programmer so apart from hacking them together a bit and a bit a basic trouble-shooting they quickly get outside my skill set.

In the future sedux may be able to provide an Upstart based script to completely replace this, but currently we don't have one available.

Best of luck!

Hey Greg,

You're welcome for the guides!

1. I'm not quite sure what problem you're running into here. I've noticed some bugs with adding PPA's via the GUI but via add-apt-repository I've not had any issues. I'd suggest retrying via the above command and see if that fixes the issues (it should allow you to update SABnzbd+ if so).

2. I generally don't cover anything more than single system setups. But you can change Couch Potato to 0.0.0.0 via the General tab via its web interface. Sick Beard can be configured by going into your .sickbeard folder and opening up the config.ini file and changing the web_host line (should be third one from the top).

Take care!

Hi,

Firstly, thanks for an amazingly well-explained tutorial.
I've installed sickbeard, sabnzbdplus, couchpotato and headphones almost as per your guide, but ran into a few problems that others may too:

1. JCFP's ppa gave me GPG errors on command line in apt and some other error in the software manager. I'm running oneiric, so I tried to change the release in the ppa to 'natty' but that didn't seem to help. Instead I removed JCFP's ppa and installed from the default repository.

2. I'm running all these on my HTPC (HP Proliant Microserver, Nvidia Geforce 210, Ubuntu Oneiric) and want to connect to the services from my home network (laptop & tablet). All services are running on the ports I selected, but are only accessible from the same machine except for sickbeard. Running the command:
netstat -anltp | grep "LISTEN"
shows sickbeard is listening on 0.0.0.0 while the rest are on 127.0.0.1. According to the all-knowing Google, when a service listens on 127.0.0.1 it is only accessible from the same machine, so I have to edit the others' config for 0.0.0.0 rather than the 'localhost' or 127.0.0.1 that I'd set them to.

Ciao,
Greg

netstat -anltp | grep “LISTEN”
shows sickbeard is listening on 0.0.0.0 while the rest are on 127.0.0.1. According to the all-knowing Google, when a service listens on 127.0.0.1 it is only accessible from the same machine, so I have to edit the others’ config for 0.0.0.0 rather than the ‘localhost’ or 127.0.0.1 that I’d set them to.

Ciao,
Greg

Hey Keala,

You're most welcome! As for your problem, what command are you using to launch Sick Beard manually? Also have you ever launched it while using sudo at the start of the command? It looks like you edited the script to hard code in your username and directory. Remember the EXT3/4 filesystems are case sensitive so if your home folder is "Xbmc" or "XBMC" that is not the same as "xbmc".

Off the top of my head that's all I can think of currently. I'd suggest re-importing the script fresh (copy/paste on top of your existing script) and re-running all the commands I list in my guide (sudo chmod x+u, etc). If you have ran Sick Beard with sudo (or think you may have), you will want to delete the .sickbeard folder and reinstall from scratch (or Google on how to fix your permissions if you'd rather).

Running Sick Beard as root is the most common cause of problems that I've seen.

Best of luck and please feel free to post follow-up questions or to email me directly if that's more convenient.

Thank you for typing up your guide!

I'm having trouble getting the script to launch Sickbeard. I run "/etc/init.d/sickbeard start" and get the message confirming the start, but I'm not able to login to the web interface. It's only when I manually start Sickbeard can I login.

Hi pislonneke,

Unfortunately I'm not sure what the issue is here. The PID files have always been hit or miss in my experience. You could try reverting to the default Couch Potato script and see if that fixes. Otherwise you may just have to manually launch the program when you restart your system for the time being or seek support on Couch Potato's forums as this is getting into the programming realm.

Best of luck!

Hi David,

Thanks for the compliment and the suggestion. I'll take a look at this in my next revision. To clarify though you had to specific your exact local IP address (such 192.168.1.33)? If so, which browser and OS were you using?

If so, I haven't had this be an issue with SABnzbd+ since my original guide so I'm curious about this.

Cheers!

Hey Fintan,

Thanks for catching this, as I had noted this may cause some confusion as it's currently implemented and it certainly did! I'll make this a bit more "clear" in my next revision.

Thanks again,

Hey Aleks,

Thanks for that modification. I'll give it a test and include the fix in my next revision of the script. I had noticed that the notifications were not working, but it was never a priority so I never investigated more so thanks for this!

Cheers!

Hey Dsmtsi,

I've been away, and getting back to Ainer.org currently. Please let me know if you still have questions about operating system selection. Ubuntu is my recommended personal computer operating system and is what I run for my HTPC as well.

I'd be happy to provide more details and suggestions if you're still feeling it out. Shoot me an email if you'd like.

Hi Richard,

This guide is actually retired and is no longer supported. I don't use or recommend the multi-threaded par application any longer.

Thanks for the note though,

Thank you for the guide.

Wanted to mention the script edited via gksudo gedit /etc/init.d/sickbeard
on line 39 contains
sudo -u $USER -H nohup python /home/$USER/.sickbeard/SickBeard.py -q > /dev/null 2>&1 &it can be modified to add -E switch as;sudo -u $USER -H nohup python /home/$USER/.sickbeard/SickBeard.py -q > /dev/null 2>&1 &

this allows the script to use the user's Environment variables. (This seemed to cause issue if user wants to use libnotify for notifications enabled under sickbeard/notification menu).

Cheers

Hi there,

Thank you for this fantastic guide. It was very useful for me. I had a similar issue with misalignment. In my case it was due to the 4096 byte sector size of my 3TB drives. I was able to resolve it by using GNU parted prior to setting up the RAID. I used these instructions: http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/fdisk-unable-to-create-partition-greater-2tb.html

I hope this helps.

Hi,

Just a quick note. I found that using the "t+" switch for the par2 config on page 4 didn't work. I had to use "-t+" as if I was running par2 from the command line for this to work.

Using your setting stopped my post-processing from happening.

daemox,I am looking to set up my HTPC with a back end computer in the basement, and 2 front end computers in the family room, and bedroom.I am looking at using media portal over xmbc only because it integrates OTA TV with guide & PVR function built into the software instead of using 3rd party like XBMC does.My question is what OS would you recommend for my HTPC set up. I read that ubntu is better than windows when using it as a server, is this true? I've never used ubntu and I am hesitant to use it for my HTPC as I don;t know the OS at all.Thanks.

I agree, the site is a little hard to navigate, but once you find the right article it is worth the effort. I believe daemox has great skill in making detailed step by step guides but isn't the best at organizing and laying out a website.

I would rather have a website with good content over a fancy easy to navigate site with crappy guides.

Not a very user friendly guide/page is it... I was trying to setup Slickbeard on Ubuntu on my 52 inch tv, but realized I have to browser 10 pages of info to find the guide I wanted... Slickbeard site points here, you point to the about page with shortcuts to the right that point to the slickbeard website. Is that your intentions to make it so the average user has to spend several minutes to get to the topic they are looking for?

Hey Frank,

You'll need to delete your .couchpotato folder and then re-install. An alternative is to look into the chmod and chown commands, but you'll need to use Google and man (manual) pages if you want to go that route.

On a side note, we're working on upstart replacement scripts (to replace the current init.d ones) for Couch Potato, Sick Beard, SABnzbd+, and Headphones, and as soon as we get some more testing done I'll be using them in the updates to all my guides. Shoot me an email if you'd like an update when they're ready.

It shouldn't be too long now.

You’ll need to delete your .couchpotato folder and then re-install. An alternative is to look into the chmod and chown commands, but you’ll need to use Google and man (manual) pages if you want to go that route.

Hi, thanks for this great tutorial :-)

I have the same problem as betrayer

".:~$ start-stop-daemon: Unable to open pidfile '/var/run/couchpotato.pid' for writing: Permission denied (Permission denied)"

I ran the script "/etc/init.d/couchpotato start" with "sudo" before read your warning :-S..... yeah, I know, I'm an idiot. Rebooting the system not working.

How can I solve this problem?

Thank you.

Hey Techgeek,

You're welcome! We should also have some new (related) guides and updates out during this month. I'm glad to hear you're giving Ubuntu a try, I come from a similar background myself.

Best of luck!

Hey Janos,

Thank you very much! Sick Beard and Couch Potato will only update XBMC's library if it's running, but XBMC should also automatically update its library as soon as you start it up again (so you shouldn't need to keep it running!).

Feel free to shoot me an email if you get stuck.

Cheers, and thanks again!

Hey Janos,

If you messed something up and feel you need to reinstall, just delete your .sickbeard folder and repeat the reinstall as per the guide!

Cheers!

Hi Janos!

You're quite welcome! I'm not quite sure on your question, if you're entering in your NZBMatrix credentials they should save (make sure to hit the save button at the bottom!). Apart from that, you do not need any other providers (or even NZBMatrix really since Sick Beard provides its own provider now!), but I do recommend getting as many as you can (and paying for or donating to as many as you can afford).

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Best of luck!

I used the original script and so far so good. I noticed the original script includes the lines "APP_PATH=/usr/local/sbin/couchpotato" and "DAEMON=/usr/bin/python". I changed the app path to "APP_PATH=/home/bob/.couchpotato" and it seems to be working. I don't know if there were any other changes to the script, but thought that might help. I'll post back if it starts acting up again.

[...] Usenet is an old, old network that actually pre-dates the Web, however like the Web it allows for exchanging information over the Internet. Usenet however, uses a much less centralized method compared to the Web, as most of the content on Usenet is distributed across many, many different servers whereas any one website will likely only be hosted by a single server (or a single cluster of servers). Any content that’s hosted on Usenet can then be accessed directly from your Usenet service provider of choice (Ainer.org recommends Supernews as the bang for your buck option, but Giganews is great too if you got a hole burning in your pocket or if you want to run VyprVPN!).
Hey Catman9!

Thanks for the comment, and if you're of the lucky sort that needs more complexity in your life, then I envy you sir!

Also, you may want to look at running the mini.iso Ubuntu provides and piece together your system bit by bit. You can add as much or as little as you want, throw in XFCE, LXDE, Xmonad, KDE, Gnome Shell, or whatever your heart desires. Heck, run it sans a GUI if you're really wanting.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/MinimalCD

I am teasing a bit, but this is my point, no matter how polished and user friendly Ubuntu may become on the surface (no matter how simple!), at its core it's still Debian, it's still Linux, it's still robust. If you have the itch, and the know-how, it can be scratched!

If you're just antsy, and looking for a new area to explore, I can suggest taking a look at Linux Mint Debian Edition, aptosid, or Arch Linux. The last two are quite a lot more "complex" than Ubuntu, and can definitely help to spread your wings in the Linux realm.

Whatever your choice, enjoy, have fun, and thanks again for commenting!

Hi Bob,

It's beginning to look like something may have changed in Couch Potato to cause issues with the startup script. I'm about to start updating the guide so you can try your hand at the startup script Couch Potato includes by default, or if you'd like, wait until I get my guide updated and I'll take a look at what's going on.

In the meantime, you can try the -d instead of the -q flag, or once you have Couch Potato up try restarting it via the web interface, that should release the terminal window without killing Couch Potato.

Shoot me an email if you'd like and I'll let you know when my guide gets updated.

Cheers!

Thanks for the guide daemox. I keep running into a problem though. If I uninstall everything and start from scratch, everything works fine. As soon as I update though I can't connect to the web interface. If I run "python .couchpotato/CouchPotato.py -q" in a terminal I can suddenly connect to the web interface, but I can't ctrl-c to leave it running and as soon as I close the terminal I loose the web interface. Any ideas?

Hey Jim,

Unfortunately, I've not ran into something like that and since there's so little detail there it's hard for me to speculate as to what might be going on behind the scenes. If you can check your logs, and then you may just want to take them straight to Couch Potato's forums in this case as it may end up being a bug in the software which would be outside my ability to help.

https://couchpotato.tenderapp.com/

Either way, feel free to keep in touch or ask me more questions!

Hey betrayer,

You may need to email me on this if you're still having the issue. Have you ran Couch Potato or the script with sudo? Have you added your username to the script?

If you're still stuck shoot me some more details via email and we'll see what we can figure out.

Best of luck!

hiya. I did something wrong and I can't figure out where. When I search for a movie, it repopulates the search bar with the name and year in parentheses, but when I hit Add the circle just spins indefinitely without ever changing.

I can't figure out where I went wrong, but I'm sure I did. Is this just a stupid mistake or should I scratch the whole thing and start from the beginning?

Hey "User,"

The easiest fix is to simply delete your .sickbeard folder and reinstall. If you want a more complex wait to fix it you can look into chmod and chown.

Best of luck!

Hey Anonymous Coward,

Yeah that will work, but the keys should be trusted properly as outlined in my guide as well (and were in subsequent testing, I just ran into the bug once and wanted to note it, and an easy fix, in case others ran into the same hiccup ;) ).

The first two commands provided by JCFP can also be simplified greatly by using "sudo add-apt-repository ppa:jcfp/ppa". Also, if you're looking for a streamlined terminal option, I'd recommend checking out Mar2zz's installation scripts (https://github.com/Mar2zz/LaSi).

He does a great job in this area, and it's just not one I plan to focus on (as there are already tons of terminal based instructions out there).

Cheers!

Thanks for clarifying that.
My SABnzbd download folder path is "/c/.sabnzbd/Downloads/complete/cinematic", which includes a symlink. Initially the renaming function in CP wasn't working for me, and I *think* it's because I input the absolute path to "cinematic", not the one above. Not sure, but anyway it's working like a charm now.

Hey albertkaufman,

I was waiting to see if anyone else would chime in first, but since no one has here's my take.

With the beta channel for Firefox, I haven't had any issues that needed a second version of Firefox installed, however if I wanted to start bench marking the different versions against each other that would definitely be a necessity.

I just consider myself a computer hobbiest though, so if you're more serious about testing software (or working professionally in this realm) then I could definitely see having multiple copies installed as being a boon.

In regards to the frequency that Firefox is updated, we should be seeing final releases every 6 weeks (like clockwork) from here on out. I hadn't taken this into account above, but version 7 should actually be released prior to Ubuntu's 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) release!

Anyway, I hope that gets to about the jist of what you were asking as I wasn't a hundred-percent clear. Cheers and thanks for the question!

Hey kurtster,

Yep, you are exactly right, these are the same folder! We have to configure SABnzbd+ to deal with the downloads exactly how we want (category, and Folder/Path) and then we have to tell Couch Potato where SABnzbd+ will be saving the downloads it has been sent (Download folder). Once they are downloaded, Couch Potato will use "Download folder" to find them again, rename them, and then move them to the "Movie destination" folder.

Hope this answers your question, let me know if not!

I'm a little confused about the settings on the "Renaming" tab (page 7 of your guide).

In CP, under the "Download folder", it says "Your SABnzbd movie download folder".
In your example, you input "/home/daemox/Downloads/cinematic". However, on page 10 of your guide for SABnzbd (http://www.ainer.org/sabnzbd-install-setup-configuration-guide-for-ubuntu-linux-mint/10), you have "cinematic" input as the Folder/Path for the cinematic category. Are these the same folders?

Thanks for your time.

As a software tester I'd be curious to hear peoples' thoughts on whether it makes sense to keep older copies of FF around. It seems to get updated every once in a while, and my guess is that anyone who uses this browser is upgrading right to the latest version. True/False?

Hey again Dsmtsi!

Sorry I didn't get back to you yesterday, but glad to hear you got it working! Regarding Firefox issues, you may just want to give Ubuntu a go instead of replacing your computer. ;)

With that said, and all seriousness, unless you have system-wide stability issues, it's unlikely to be an issue with your hardware. It's much more probable that your OS or even just the application in question needs some maintenance or wiping and re-installation.

On a related note, and just for future reference, I don't provide support for Windows or Macintosh installations at all. I'll wish you well if that remains your chosen OS, but I have limited time and resources and I have chosen to invest them into helping others on my chosen platform (personal computer), operating system (Ubuntu), and applications (Ainer.org's Featured Projects).

With that said, if you choose to give Ubuntu a try I'd be glad to help ya in anyway I can, so feel free to keep in touch or to shoot me an email if you feel like doing so in the future. I'm also hoping to do a full Install, Setup, & Configuration guide for Ubuntu for either this upcoming release (11.10, Oneiric Ocelot) or for the next Long Term Support release (12.04) so stay tuned for that if at all interested.

Again, glad everything's working for you and take care!

Thanks again.

Last night I finally got SABnzbd+ & SickBeard configured & working properly. I had to uninstall and re-install both programs and follow your guide to a T but as of last night it was working.

I think I need to get a new computer though as firefox would sometimes crash, but aside form that it is a really "SICK" program! I can't believe I wasted my time with torrents all these years.

I'm going to have to give music box and couch potato a try as well.

Thanks again.

Thanks for the quick reply. I am having a lot of trouble setting up SickBeard to work with SNBnzb to put the files in the proper place and rename them.

For some reason it will send the file to SNBnzb to Dl, but it doesn't catagorze it as TV, and even if I manually change it to TV which is set up to use SAB to SICKbeard.ext it still won't rename any files or put them in the proper place.

I get an error saying

title>Access denied Error 401 Unauthorized: You need to provide a valid username and password.

Hey, good morning Dsmtsi!

Thanks for the kind words, and you certainly can filter quality settings. Mouse-over the "Home" button then click on "Add Shows" and then the "Add New Show" buttons. On "Step 3", "Customize options" you can select the "Preferred quality of episodes to be download." Set this to "Custom" if you want to precisely pick and choose exactly what "Initial" and what "Archive" quality you want.

For your above example you could select everything up to (but NOT including) "1080p BluRay" and be all set.

Best of luck!

Huge thanks for this write up. Even though I am using windows this set up guide has been great. I look forward to reading your other guides in the near future.

I do have one question though. Is it possible to filter quality settings, eg Only DL SD, HDTV, 720 etc?

Thanks

Hey The_Eggert,

Thank you kindly for the compliments!

The two different drives shouldn't be an issue unless there's a permission issue going on (such as if you ever ran Sick Beard as root or with sudo, or don't presently have ownership of the archival disk). Other than that, if Sick Beard is otherwise communicating with SABnzbd+ just fine, I wouldn't think it'd be a API Key or user/password issue between Sick Beard and SABnzbd+ so hard to guess at other possibilities currently.

You may want to just hop on the Sick Beard IRC channel, or hit up their forum and post your log as they see more problems than I do on a regular basis. Also if you want to send me the full log I can take a look (dae...@gmail.com). Both Sick Beard's and SABnzbd+'s log may be helpful in this case and you may also want to take a look at the permissions and ownership of the script itself as well as any files it tried to post-process recently but failed.

Best of luck, and when you get this figured let me know how it goes!

Hey daemox
First off, your site is pure gold - Not just the guides you write, but also that you find just the software (HeadPhones & Couchpotato) which I need :)

With that said, I have a rather annoying bug with SickBeard..
Whenever a download has finished, it isn't post-processed..
The script log from Sab gives the error: 401 Unauthorized
I don't know if it's significant, that download and "TV Archive" are on separate HDD's..

I hope you can help :)
